Open Call for Projects
The Village of Hamburg will open its NY Forward Open Call for Projects on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Community members, business owners, nonprofits, and other eligible project sponsors are encouraged to submit proposals that support downtown revitalization—such as building improvements, public spaces, business development, or cultural initiatives.
Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Local Planning Committee (LPC), which will recommend projects based on feasibility, impact, and alignment with Hamburg’s community goals. Selected projects may be included in Hamburg’s NY Forward Strategic Investment Plan for potential state funding consideration.

A few things worth understanding about eligibility and funding before you put together your application.

New construction or rehab — mixed-use, commercial, or public uses
Public improvements — parks, streetscapes, and public spaces
Downtown branding — signage and materials that promote downtown Hamburg

Planning activities, operations and maintenance, property acquisition, existing programs, and costs already incurred are not eligible for funding.

To be eligible, projects must be located within the Hamburg NY Forward Boundary. The LPC may consider projects located just outside the Study Area if those projects are likely to have a transformative impact on downtown Hamburg. If your project is located outside the Study Area, you will be asked to provide a justification for why it should be considered in your application.

Eligible applicants include property owners, business owners, and public entities with projects located within the NY Forward Study Area. You must be the property owner or have written permission from the property owner in order to submit a project application.

Grant funds are only distributed after the full project scope is completed. Applicants should plan for bridge financing through a loan, owner equity, or other mechanisms.

Grant funding can only be used for project activities completed after the announcement of winning projects in Summer 2027. Any project activities completed before then cannot be reimbursed.

Not all submitted applications will be recommended or funded. Final funding decisions are made by New York State.
